La crise politique dans laquelle nous semblons installés témoigne bien d’un certain ratage de la promesse démocratique et avec elle de celle d’une certaine pratique du pouvoir censée la réaliser. La difficulté réside dans l’ambiguïté intrinsèque de ce qu’on entend par « ce pouvoir (kratos) du peuple », difficulté qui plus est redoublée depuis que la démocratie est représentative : les coordonnées modernes du problème politique font reposer la démocratie sur un consentement par lequel le citoyen délègue l’exercice du pouvoir à ses représentants.
