I asked immigrants from 28 countries why they’re serving in the US military – and it’s not primarily to gain citizenship

As the U.S. military struggles through the worst recruitment crisis in 25 years, it has redoubled efforts to recruit from immigrant communities. Immigrants who are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents are eligible to join the armed forces – and have done so since the beginning of U.S. history.

Her Ladyship Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo took office as the 15th ,chief justice of Ghana on 12 June 2023. She is the third woman to occupy the position, which is the fourth highest in the country after the president, vice-president and speaker of parliament. Ghana’s judiciary is made up of the supreme court, the court of appeal, high court and magistrate (district) court. The chief justice is at the top of the judicial hierarchy and serves as administrator and supervisor.

La répétition et la rage, au cœur des émeutes françaises

Bien qu’elles nous surprennent chaque fois, depuis les révoltes des Minguettes dans les années 1980, les émeutes se répètent en suivant le même scénario : un jeune est tué ou gravement blessé par le police et les violences explosent dans le quartier concerné, dans les quartiers voisins, parfois, comme en 2005 et aujourd’hui, dans tous les quartiers « difficiles » qui se reconnaissent dans la victime de la police.
